We have rescheduled our FREE event for all kids with special needs.  This is not only a fun day for the kids, but also a chance to meet other parents and find out about more programs available in our area. Check out the flyer for more info and also to register.

Rescheduling A Special Day for Special Kids

Unfortunately, we have to reschedule our Special Day for Special Kids event.  We are hoping for a day in late September.  We will be posting a new date once it is confirmed.  Please check back.  We need to gather as many kids as possible for a successful event and remember it is TOTALLY FREE to all kids with special needs and their siblings!

A Special Day for Special Kids

Friends For PWS is hosting "A Special Day for Special Kids" on Saturday August 29th at the Newport Recreation Center.  This event is absolutely free and is for special needs kids of all ages and their siblings. We have several different activities planned, one room for calm, quiet crafty projects and another room for crazy, music and dance activities and games.  Kids can participate in as many activities as they like but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. They can also get their face painted and their picture taken.  Healthy snacks will be available, as well as a special treat.

For parents, volunteers with information on other organizations and resources that may be helpful will be on hand and available to answer questions.  And we hope that parents will get an opportunity to visit with each other and make new friends.

Pre-registration by August 20 is recommended so that we will better be able to accommodate all special needs.  Those that do so will receive a free T-shirt.  However, you can also register at the door the day of the event.

New Fund Raising Event

  We've recovered from the 1st Annual Parrothead Party in September and the holidays and are preparing for our next major fundraising event--Newport's Seafood and Wine Festival.  The event takes place on the last full weekend in February which this year is February 20-22.  We have a larger booth this year and are hoping to raise even more money than last year.  The  theme is "Under The Sea" and we are once again going all out in our booth decorations and costumes.  We will be pouring and selling our favorite organic wines from Bonterra Vineyards as well as other merchandise fitting for the occasion.  And of course we will have information available on Prader-Willi Syndrome and folks on hand to answer questions.  Be sure to stop by our booth, taste some great wine and support Friends For PWS!!!

THE PARROTHEAD PARTY WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!!!!!! THANKS TO ALL!!!!

Our first Annual Parrothead Party was a huge success and we have many people to thank for that.  Initially the party would have never even happened without the generous contributions from so many business owners in Lincoln County.  Not only did we receive cash contributions allowing us to put on a first class event, we also were able to offer many, many wonderful gifts at our silent auction.  This by far was our biggest money-maker and we were able to contribute money to the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association and other organizations working on research and assistance for those affected by PWS.  We were also able to assist the Chavez family and our inspiration, Sequoia Chavez. 

As a new organization putting together a major event, we were more than overwhelmed with how many people were willing to get involved in such a huge way.  Beyond the monetary, there was so much support from our local media in helping us get the word out about the party, Friends For PWS and about Sequoia.  People volunteered to help set up, keep the party running, and put it away the next day.  THANK YOU is not a big enough word!
